Lazy Winter Days

I roll over in my bed, warm and snuggled up with what some people may like to think is to many pillows. The only thoughts running through my head at the moment question why my room couldn't be a little darker, and if i could somehow manage so squeeze in a couple more hours of sleep. I glance to my left to see Stinky and Perry snuggled up as well, and i know all three of us are content with laying around all afternoon. Unfortunately the alarm on my phone is a constant reminder that i have things to do and rolling around in bed with the cats is not one of them. As i reach over and grab my phone, i'm filled with a sense of relief as i hit "Dismiss" interrupting the typical and overplayed classic Verizon ringtone. I Stand up and stretch  my arms and back hearing the cracking and popping  of my back "pop pop kink". Smiling to myself i know that sleeping twelve hours may not have been the best use of my time, but it sure feels good. Stinky awakes as well, preforming his downward facing "cat" pose, and hops off the ledge of my bed.

"Samanthaaa, its time to wake up, you cant sleep all day!" My mother yells from the family room downstairs. Suddenly  crawling back under my covers seems like a pretty nice idea. I slowly make my way down the stairs, in the up most thrilled manner.

"What are your plans for today?" My mother asks in her questioning tone. "I actually don't know yet, maybe go do something outside?" I state hesitantly  She nods in agreement. "Breakfast is on the counter if you want some."

My eyes light up and my mouth salivates with joy. Breakfast, is my favorite reason to wake up in the morning, or in this case, afternoon. As i walk towards the counter, i wonder why i hadn't realized the mouth watering smells earlier. I feast my eyes on bacon, french toast. I immediately dive in and the bacon tastes like that of a restaurant  Melting in your mouth with every crunchy bite, the perfect amount of salty flavor. The delicious greasy meat reminding me and my aroused taste buds with every mouthful why it will always be my favorite. The french toast cut into perfect half pieces of bread, and coated in powdered sugar, look fantastic as well. I drizzle syrup over top and prepare myself for another amazing entree. I'm not surprised at all when i bite down down on the out-of-this-world stack of buttery toast. Its got the perfect little crunch to it, yet the softness of the egg dipped bread matches up with it beautifully. Waking up and coming downstairs has now turned into an un-regrettable choice.

I finish my meal and happen to catch sight out out back glass door and see the 3 feet of snow that had been left at some point during my hibernation.

My mom catches eyes with me and says innocently, "Would you mind shoveling the driveway before you father gets home?"

Saying no is not an option after the breakfast i just consumed, so before i know it, "Sure" falls right out of my mouth.

With a little bit of hidden excitement i collect my things to brave the cold. This being the first real reason for me to go outside in the snow this winter, I don't really have anything to complain about. Before i know it i am bundled up and attempting to waddle out to the garage in the clunky snow boots and over sized snow jacket. I make sure i don't forget anything and press the button to open the garage.

The door slowly pulls itself open and i am blinded with the sun reflecting snow. My eyes take a couple minutes to adjust and i realize just how beautiful it is outside. The driveway is covered in a thick layer of sparkling white snow, untouched and smooth as can be. The trees and field next to my house are beautiful as well. Branches hanging low, weighed down by the few inches of white power balancing on each branch. The open corn field covered by acres and acres of open land untouched by the neighborhood children. Living out towards the country is nice because i don't have to look at any neighbors houses if i don't want to. There have been countless winters spent watching the children run through our yard leaving mushy grey foot prints and dog prints all over the place

I put in my head phones and start shoveling, the snow is heavier than I thought it would be. Wheres someone strong when you need them? I continue to shovel sporadically around the drive way. Trying my hardest to stay a little bit organized between my breaks of laying in the snow and throwing snow balls by myself. I spent so much time playing by myself and attempting to shovel the concrete, that i didn't take the time to glance around. After about an hour or two of being out side fooling around i took one of my routine breaks and sat in the snow. Only to look up and see a dozen deer a couple hundred feet away from me! Living near a field i knew this wasn't a rare sighting but to be so oblivious to what what next to me it caught me off guard.

After taking a couple pictures and having a good laugh I felt it necessary to finish shoveling the driveway. Little did I know certain sections of the drive way had ice patches under the snow. I walk a shovel of snow to the edge to toss it in the grass, and "WHOOOPPP" I yell as i slip and fall right into a mound of snow. I raise my head and look up to see all the deer running away into the woods.

"What a stupid way to send the deer off" I think to myself.

I roll out of the snow, finish my half ass job of "shoveling" the driveway, and head in for the night. I kick off my boots, and throw my wet clothes in the dryer. Before i know it i'm crawling back into bed with Stinky and Perry. I wonder to myself if ill get the privilege to do it all again the next day.
